Newbury Cadets demonstrate their athletic ability - May 2006

Newbury Cadets are celebrating after bringing home a number of awards from the Thames Valley Wing athletics meetings at Tilsley Park in Abingdon.

Twenty three Air Cadets from 211 Newbury Squadron travelled to Tilsley Park at Abingdon on Sunday to take part in the Thames Valley Wing Athletics Competition. The cadets competed in field events including javelin, shot putt, and discus, high and long jump and also on the track in various races from 100m to 1500m and also 4x100m relays. Points are awarded not only winning and being placed in events but also taking part.

Newbury cadets retained the Group C (senior) Boys Cup but also brought home the Overall Boys Trophy and the Overall Champions Trophy- the second year running. The day was a great success and was enjoyed by all.

The Squadron’s Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Simon Cragg said “This is a wonderful achievement by all the cadets involved – a clear demonstration that all the hard work and effort training really pays off”.

The Trophies come on top of 36 cadets receiving their Basic Swimming Proficiencies earlier this year, with a further 26 achieving their Intermediate Certificates.
