Corps Radio Field Day - April 2006

Twice a year Cadets and Staff from across the Air Cadet Organisation leave their Headquarters and head for the hills in order to try and talk to other Squadrons across the country.

This year proved no exception, with Warrant Officer Steve Pye taking Newbury squadron’s Very High Frequency radio equipment to Coombe Gibbet to join in the competition.

The competition is judged in two ways – the squadron who transmits the furthest, and the Squadron who makes the most contacts. Although unplaced in the most contacts competition, Newbury Squadron successfully managed to make contact with 579 (Llandrindod Wells) Squadron in No 2 Welsh Wing – 163km away!

The next Radio Field Day takes place in October, where we hope to have better weather in order to get even further – with many more contacts!
