First Aid Training Day - April 2006

Nine Cadets from 211 (Newbury) Squadron achieve their Young Life Saver Plus award!

By kind permission of the Officer Commanding of Royal School of Military Survey, 211 (Newbury) Squadron were recently allowed to hold a first aid training day using the Schools facilities.

Squadron Warrant Officer Steve Pye, a first aid instructor by trade, aided by Civilian Instructors Stephen Robinson, Gareth Pye & Jan Pye, taught a group of 9 cadets basic first aid skills to the Young Lifesaver Plus standard. The course syllabus includes how to deal with a variety of medical emergencies including allergic reactions, bleeding, fractures & falls and breathing problems. Passing the course entitles the cadets to wear a Young Lifesaver Plus badge on their uniform: identifying them as a trained first aider.

The cadets all passed with flying colours and are all confident that they could deal with medical emergencies -€“ although they all have fingers crossed that they'€™ll never need to!

It is hoped that the course will run again later in the year, giving more cadets a chance of gaining such valuable life saving lessons!
