January proved another busy month for the cadets and staff of 211 (Newbury) Squadron.
The month started with an intake of 12 cadets into the squadron to start their probationer training. Over the coming months the cadets with undertake a wide variety of training to give them the basic knowledge to partake in all Air Cadet activities when they have their formal passing out parade at the Commanding Officers Parade.
This month also saw the graduation and enrollment of the 4th recruit flight of 2008 at the CO's Parade. Cadet's Cdt Badman-Lailey, Cookson, Kingham & Omar were formally invited to join the squadron at the Parade, Dr Rev David Stone & the Commanding Officer, Simon Cragg.
The COs Parade also saw a number of promotions; Sergeant Dunwell to Flight Sergeant, Corporals Wards & Cpl Penna to Sergeant and Cadets Goodman & Hastings were promoted to Corporal. Well done all!!!
In terms of activities & events, the squadron was very busy, with Climbing days at Bramley, Hants, as well as Target Shooting with the No 8 at RAF Benson and L81 at Otmoor.
Sgt Penna undertook the final element of his Staff Cadet training by organising a trip for the cadets to London to the Imperial War Museum. The cadets & staff thoroughly enjoyed the day out with many good memories to take away.
The Commanding Officer Flt Lt Cragg & Training Officer Plt Off Pye also attended the Wing Conference at RAF Benson. A range of topics were discussed which all impact directly or indirectly on the squadron activities - but it was a very productive day with a lot of good practice to take away.
The finally highlight of January was a visit from the RAF Careers Office who delivered an excellent presentation to the cadets about today's Royal Air Force, it's role and it's structure, as well as the broad range of vocations available to potential recruits.
